Humility from the pulpit

Christ, as the Good Shepherd, was the epitome of meekness and humility; taking on the form of a servant and washing the apostles feet.  The pastor, as the under-shepherd, must exemplify that humility.  All too often the Pastor seems concerned about keeping his leadership position by never showing his weaknesses or failures.  The people will respond to a Pastor that is willing to share when he was wrong and is willing to apologize individually and from the pulpit.  The Pastor should be willing to share about missed opportunities in witnessing and mistakes he has made in administration and leadership.

Though not popular, the Pastor should be willing to shoulder the blame and take responsibility for his staff.  If the ‘buck stops here’ and the it is the Pastor’s job to admit when something was handled wrong and explain how mistakes will be adverted in the future -even if the mistake was not really his.  This builds loyalty and rapport like nothing else!
